Kestrel 4 (S)

Kestrel 3 (S)
Kestrel
Falco tinnunclus
Wild kestrels can
be very difficult to get close to. Occasionally, however,
you can hit it lucky with a braver individual as in these
images - all of which are females. The top 3
images where taken on very late evenings when the light
was glowing warm. It helped that I knew these birds
well and where they liked to hunt (close to my home).
The above shot was more luck in that this bird was hunting
for voles and must have been so hungry she didn't mind me
approaching within a few metres of her, albeit on my stomach.
The lower 2 images were taken at midday from a car.
Note the very different quality of the light in these shots,
something I always try to preserve when processing my images.
